About JAO Originals
|
.jpg) |
JAO Originals is the
product of a lifetime spent working metal. Originally starting
out in aircraft
I branched into hand metal spinning and fabrication and found
something I loved to do. Hand
metal spinning is a dying art with the work becoming more and more
automated. At one time
there were many fabrication shops in the USA that offered metal
spinning services but
they have slowly disappeared leaving small shops like me to
concentrate on our specific
niches. Cookware happens to be my niche. |

Everything comes into
the shop as raw material. Copper sheets are sheared into
squares before
going to the circle shear. The steel sheets go to the laser to
be cut into round blanks.
Round blanks are what is needed for spinning the material into pots
and pans. All of the handles
are made by laser cutting the needed shapes before starting the
finishing and bending process. |

 |
Every pot and pan must
have a form that is mounted on the spinning lathe before the forming
process can start. The form is what gives the copper it's
final shape. Pure copper has a limit to
how far it can be worked before it work hardens. Once
hardened, it must be annealed before
you can continue. Annealing is a very time consuming process
that some companies avoid by
using alloyed copper. The alloys allow them to form the piece
without annealing. Not at JAO
Originals! I use commercially pure C110 copper and anneal as
many times as required. |

This is just a small
look at what goes on behind the scenes here in my shop. In
today's modern
world it is getting harder and harder to find quality products that
are made to last. Here at JAO
Originals, the old ways still live on and a lot of pride goes into
every piece I make. |
